China
We can also order parts from China at a very low sales price. However, such orders should be high volume for each part. Order

International Distributors
We usually order from DigiKey (free shipping, fairly cheap) or Future Electronics ($50 shipping, very cheap). Mouser also ships free above 80 CHF.

Because DigiKey and Future carry different parts, it is not easy to do a cheap order with exactly one part, because sometimes alternative parts exist in the other store that are cheaper.
List alternative parts in the Article Number field. Let's see how that works out.
* Make a good use out of the interrupt functions, timers etc in the uC
* Program the uC with a failback mode (using watchdogs for instance)
* The doorlock requires attention, it's a really important part I think (if it fails someone unwanted could come in or someone could be locked outside)
* The code has to be as simple and as clear as possible, it has to be bug free
* Adding a battery for the uC and for the door-lock in case of power break down
I can (would be happy to) work on the project a bit if nobody is wanting to do it. I have experience in programming Atmel uCs and intel 8051 uCs, know how to build a StripBoard circuit etc... I can also use LCDs screens or 7segs to display information. I have the components or uCs so basically it would be free (no $$$ spend)
Naturally it will come with all the documentation (made by me), I could also write the logs on a memory etc... I'm totally up to it, and motivated to help. We can also change the door locking mechanism. The one we choose has too many looking part. I would really go for a locking system in the door frame, as it is more reliable.

--Rorist 20:05, 1 June 2012 (CEST)

Ah oups... sorry about that! You were the guy from Geneva, right? The one I talked to on the train (I'm still relatively new, not too good with faces)? BTW, the ones you linked to are actually RGB, however its kind of cheating because every chip is a different color and you can't control the colors separately. What's more, the strips there are of smaller size, thus emitting less light. The only advantage they have over the ones I'm (probably) getting of ebay is that they are waterproof. I think that the ebay ones are still a better option, considering they're less than half the price... Sasha 21:35, 21 May 2012 (CEST)

Yeah in Switzerland it's expensive, getting the strips via ebay from china is the best deal I think. And no, I'm not from Geneva, I'm the guy with long fair hair from Renens VD (maybe I'll link a photograph in my profile...) --Wertenbr 00:18, 22 May 2012 (CEST)

So you look more for a "Selecta" type of vending machine if I understand correctly, but I think it will be difficult making one for 200chf even without counting the time spent on it (I'm talking about one with refrigeration and a solid build, coin mechs and coin return, the MCU, all the motors for the spirally things you find in "Selecta" machines etc...) and it should work 24/24h without problems --Wertenbr 21:35, 21 May 2012 (CEST)
