Talk:LED Retrofit

You guys really want to put LEDs everywhere... makes me think of car tuning freaks who put neons or LEDs on every inch of their car.
This might be cool but it seems a bit overkill, however I couldn't see any items on the ebay links due to restrictions... and the prices in Switzerland for the 5m RGB LED strips are about 30chf
PS: You should really have a look at this : YouTube --Wertenbr 04:53, 20 May 2012 (CEST)

Well, if you would have been there, you would have seen how cool it is - look at the vids. Either way, the response was pretty awesome, with a few awwww's and oh's as we played with them. Nevertheless, there isn't enough light at the moment in the hs, so this provides a cool, somewhat cost effective solution. Oh and where did you find LED strips for 30 CHF/5m in Switzerland? -- Sasha 9:31, 20 May 2012 (CEST)

FYI I was there ;) I helped put them up on the edge and fixed the cable with some tape...
and for the prices for 30chf / 5m I checked it was for single colored strips, but the website had a misleading image (and well, when it's 4 in the morning... my bad sorry)
still : 39.90chf ricardo.ch I don't know of the quality etc... but it is 300rgb leds / 5m and you get an adaptor and a 24key remote
Ebay This seems really really cheap, with free shipping, what's the catch ? --Wertenbr 21:28, 21 May 2012 (CEST)

Ah oups... sorry about that! You were the guy from Geneva, right? The one I talked to on the train (I'm still relatively new, not too good with faces)? BTW, the ones you linked to are actually RGB, however its kind of cheating because every chip is a different color and you can't control the colors separately. What's more, the strips there are of smaller size, thus emitting less light. The only advantage they have over the ones I'm (probably) getting of ebay is that they are waterproof. I think that the ebay ones are still a better option, considering they're less than half the price... Sasha 21:35, 21 May 2012 (CEST)

Yeah in Switzerland it's expensive, getting the strips via ebay from china is the best deal I think. And no, I'm not from Geneva, I'm the guy with long fair hair from Renens VD (maybe I'll link a photograph in my profile...) --Wertenbr 00:18, 22 May 2012 (CEST)

Can this do the trick for the power supply http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/444287489/S_400_constant_current_led_driver/showimage.html ? gcmalloc

It should, however, I think we can try to use an ATX power supply first, maybe with some RGB Amplifiers incase we cannot push almost 400 watts through the pcb Sasha
