Description

Make an UV Box for PCB etching.

Goal

  • To be able to insolate presensitized copper boards.
  • Insolate double sided copper boards.
  • Use a timer (optional)
  • Display time left (optional)

Obstacle

A list of potential obstacles

Components

  • UV LED (200x): description
  • (Alim)
  • Box (wood, suitcase,...?)

LED Panel

I propose we make an LED panel for the UV box. A guy from PTL is doing the same thing (UV Box for DNA analysis), and Sasha is interested in making a white LED panel. The panels, when bought online, cost a lot due to their large size and weight (shipping costs), but it would be fairly cheap to build them ourselves. Here are some pics of the way they are made: LED Panel assembly.jpg LED Panel cutout.jpeg Screen Shot 2013-01-23 at 10.36.42 AM.png Led panel construction.jpeg

Case study

Component:

  • UV LED 5mm
  • Forward voltage: 3.2 - 3.4 V
  • Max. current: 20 mA
  • Angle: about 25°

Power supply:

  • Voltage : 20 V
  • Power: ? W

Dimensions:

  • Space between LEDs: ~2.5 cm
  • Space between LEDs and PCB : ~6 cm
  • Average PDB size: 10 cm x 16 cm
  • Max PCB size: 15 cm x 25 cm
